treasures and letters (and a surprise), oh my!

This is the first of many "treasure" posts to come on this little blog! It will be a rather long post, I'm afraid, but be sure to read on to the end for some exciting news!

This past week has been so full of lovely things, from near and far. I received a parcel from my lovely new pen-pal, Emma, on Monday. It is such a joy to correspond with her. She sent such precious treasures!

Emma sent me an old postcard, some shells from her collection, stamps, and pictures of some handsome fellows from the olden days (she and I both have an affection for tweed-donning men).

I simply adore this precious little trinket box! This birdcage pin is so charming and will be ever so lovely pinned to the collars of my shirts. Emma also sent some gold star hairpins that I intend to wear as often as I can. Having a pen-pal to treasure hunt for is so much fun!

Local thrift stores have been kind to me recently, as well. I've found so many tiny things for my room. Unfortunately, I seem to be running out of places to put them!

I found the cutest Avon teapot sachet from the 1970s, still filled with its original powder. When I first smelled it, I instantly recognized it as a scent from my grandmother's old house (which, I discovered, is called "To A Wild Rose"). I also found a little porcelain picture frame, in which I placed my grandmother's picture from her wedding day. It suits it so perfectly! And this tiny porcelain dish is adorable.

I found this Avon sachet from the 1950s as well. It still had some of the original cream inside! This ginger jar is charming, too, though I'm not sure what I might use it for.

This picture frame was too sweet to pass up for just thirty cents. Oh, and this doily with tiny embroidered roses is one of the loveliest I've seen! It now rests on my nightstand.

Last but not least, I came across this breathtaking saucer. The details are so dainty, and I've never seen a lovelier floral pattern on china before.

x

I found some clothing, too! These are the first additions to my vintage wardrobe:

This ivory blouse will be perfect for pairing with my skirts in the fall. And the lace detailing is so delicate!

x

I also found a Tailorbrooke jacket in perfect condition, with tags and all! I can't wait to wear it on campus next semester.

As it happened, my Nana recently gave me a flower pin and necklace that complement it quite splendidly.

Now for the news! I'm pleased to announce that I will be starting my own Etsy shop in the coming weeks. I've been scouring local thrift stores for unique articles of clothing and accessories that will appeal to lovers of vintage apparel. My hope is to raise some money for school, a car, and a trip to Europe upon my college graduation. I would be ever so happy if you browsed the shop and purchased something to help me out.

Here's a sneak peek at some of the items that can soon be yours!

This darling dress with a red velvet skirt...

...this adorable coral shrug...

...and these hats are just some of many items you'll be able to purchase!

My goodness, what a long post! I promise my future posts won't be so lengthy. I hope you'll consider taking a look at my shop once it's open (I'm afraid I've not yet thought of a catchy name for it).

xx

  1. Oh, your photographs of the treasures are beautiful! (I'm so glad you liked my little gifts, dear). Those vintage Avon finds are also wonderful: one of my favorite things to do on Etsy is to gaze at all the pretty avon bottles and tins. And speaking of Etsy, I'm so happy to hear of your soon-to-be Etsy shop! Those hats look too perfect. xx

    1. Oh, thank you, dear. I was hoping to publish more this summer, but sadly this blog was neglected. However, I hope to do at least two posts in the coming week before school starts. I have opened my Etsy shop, though there are only a few listings now. It's here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/secretpassageways
I'd be ever so happy if you had a look; there will be plenty more listings soon. xx

  5. The little treasure are very beautiful. I really wanted to own some of those but I can't seem to find old fancy stuffs in our city. If there is, they're very expensive.

Regarding your penpal too, it's also nice to know that someone out there is interested and find happiness doing it. I thought I'm the only one. Thought I stopped for awhile because of some personal reasons.

anyway, I just wanted to comment in photos of yours. hope to read from you more :)
I hope it's alright if I make a collage out of your little treasure. I will put a watermark on it and send it you through Tumblr :) have a great day!
