weekend by the water

This weekend was my family's first at our seasonal campsite, which is situated alongside a lovely creek. We plan to retreat there many weekends this coming summer.

On the way there, we stopped at a little general store for something to eat. I spotted these beauties as soon as I stepped out of the car.

It seemed perhaps they were congregating to enjoy something sweet that had been dumped in that spot. It was truly an unexpected delight to watch, as new arrivals came every few seconds to join them.

Among other things, yesterday was the first day my father and I went fishing this season. It was so wonderful to be back in the water, this time in my new waders. I wandered into deep patches and still emerged completely dry! Casting the line out upon the water and letting it drift with the current is such a soothing pastime.

My line got snagged on a rock several times. Here I am walking upstream to yank it out.

Though I didn't catch any fish, it was a lovely and peaceful weekend. Hopefully, I'll have plenty of opportunities to take pictures of my outdoor adventures as the summer unfolds!
